MICROSOFT TEAMS & ZOOM 2025 END OF CERTIFICATION UPDATE

Technology evolves rapidly, and with it, software platforms continuously update their requirements for certified devices. Recently, some conferencing hardware solutions have reached End of Certification for platforms like Zoom and Microsoft Teams, which raises important considerations for IT teams. But what does this really mean, and how does it compare to other product lifecycle stages like End of Support, End of Life, and End of Sale?

WHAT IS END OF CERTIFICATION?

End of Certification occurs when a device or hardware solution is no longer officially certified by Zoom or Microsoft Teams. This does not mean the device immediately stops working, but it does mean:

  • The product will not receive future certification updates.

  • Compatibility with new platform updates may be impacted.

  • Businesses may experience limited technical support for platform-related issues.

  • Some advanced features may no longer be optimized for the platform.

This stage is often the first sign that a device is nearing the later phases of its lifecycle.

UNDERSTANDING PRODUCT LIFECYCLE TERMS

When investing in technology, it’s crucial to understand the different phases of a product’s lifecycle. Terms like End of Support (EOS), End of Life (EOL), and End of Sale (EOS) define the availability, security, and support status of a device. Knowing what each term means helps businesses plan upgrades, ensure compatibility, and mitigate security risks.

END OF SUPPORT

End of Support (EOS) occurs when a manufacturer stops providing software updates, security patches, and technical assistance for a product.

Once a device reaches this phase, it becomes vulnerable to cyber threats, as security updates are no longer issued. Additionally, troubleshooting help from the manufacturer is either limited or entirely unavailable. Businesses relying on EOS products risk operational inefficiencies and security vulnerabilities, making it essential to plan ahead for replacements or upgrades.

END OF LIFE (EOL)

End of Life (EOL) signifies that a manufacturer has officially discontinued a product, halting all firmware updates, security patches, and future developments.

As technology evolves, EOL products become increasingly incompatible with newer systems, leading to performance issues and security gaps. Organizations using EOL devices should prioritize transitioning to modern alternatives to maintain efficiency, security, and compliance with industry standards.

END OF SALE (EOS)

End of Sale (EOS) indicates that a product is no longer available for purchase directly from the manufacturer or official resellers.

While some manufacturers continue offering limited support for existing customers, policies vary. Businesses planning long-term technology investments should check whether EOS products will still receive necessary updates and support before making a purchase.
